Mitsui OSK Extends Hormuz Shipping Disruption Outlook to 2027

Industry warning

The company’s revised view follows a renewed escalation in hostilities and a sharp reduction in observable traffic. Although some ships may still be moving through the area, major operators remain unwilling to treat the route as safe and reliable.[7]

Forecast moves later

Mitsui OSK’s earlier planning assumed that navigation would gradually resume from October 2026 and become normalized by January 2027. Its newer public comments suggest even that schedule may be difficult to achieve.[7]

Conditions for return

The operator requires evidence of a sustainably safe passage, not merely a temporary reduction in attacks or a short-lived political agreement. That raises the possibility that traffic could reopen in stages while remaining below normal for months.[7]

What it implies

On this assessment, January 2027 or later is more plausible than a full return in October or November 2026. The timing remains contingent on de-escalation and credible security guarantees.[7]
