Harris, Vance leading in 2028 presidential polling
Early frontrunners
A Focaldata/Financial Times poll conducted October 2–5 found Harris leading potential Democratic contenders with 30% support, while Vance led potential Republican nominees with 38%. Secretary of State Marco Rubio followed Vance among Republicans with 24%. [1]
What the poll shows
The poll measures preferences within each party, not a head-to-head presidential contest. It therefore offers no reliable basis for declaring who would win the general election, particularly with the primaries and campaign still ahead.
Open field
The Republican field appears more consolidated around Vance, while Democrats have a broader group of possible contenders, including Gavin Newsom, Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez, Pete Buttigieg, Cory Booker and Andy Beshear. None has formally secured a nomination. [2]
What comes next
Prediction-market and AI-based assessments have also favored Vance, but those signals are speculative and can shift sharply as candidates announce, records are tested and national conditions change. The most defensible conclusion is that Vance currently has the strongest early position, not that he is certain to win in 2028. [3]
